This weekend marks this year’s running of the Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce Trade Show at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC).

Getting underway May 10 at 4 p.m., the show will feature a selection of exhibits from more than 200 businesses, organizations and not-for-profit groups from Cochrane and the surrounding area. Wrapping up at 10 p.m., the shopping and fun continues May 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission to the event is $5.

Booths will feature everything from art exhibits to jewelry vendors and local spas, to schools, golf clubs and health professionals.

Along with exposing show attendees to a large number of local organizations, the trade show provides people with a place to shop and save on any number of products and services.

“The trade show is the Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce’s biggest fundraiser, but it also gives people the chance to connect with local community and local businesses,” said Kelly Phelan, the show’s marketing manager.

New on the trade show docket for 2013 is the Cochrane Talent Search. Divided into two categories — the adult division and youth division — local talent will be leaving it all on stage during the contest finals May 10 from 4-6 p.m.

Comedian Jamie Hutchinson will be the talent search emcee, said Phelan.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of both divisions — $500 for the youth victor and $1,000 for the adult winner.

Winners will also be given the opportunity to perform in front of a larger audience, taking to the stage before the marquee concert headliner, Colin James.

Legacy Guitar and Coffee House will be teaming up with the Cochrane Trade Show to present the 2013 Cochrane Guitar Show, which will run at the SLS centre alongside the trade show May 11.

The show, held on the soccer field, promises a day of live music, interactive workshops, seminars and product demonstrations.

Admission to the guitar show is free with the $5 trade show admission.

The show kicks off Friday night at 7 p.m. with a performance by award-winning Canadian guitarist Don Ross. Tickets for Ross’ performance are $29.95.

Ross will be sticking around for Saturday’s festivities and is slated to lead a workshop during the guitar show.

Renowned Canadian musician James will be headlining the marquee concert, wrapping up the Cochrane Trade Show and the Cochrane Guitar Show. Hitting the stage at the SLS centre, the rock and blues performer will be treating crowds to an up close and personal experience.

Tickets for James’ show are $47.50. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Tickets for both shows can be purchased at Legacy Guitar and Coffee House or online at legacyguitarhouse.com.
