Starting on July 10, and running through the summer, the Picnic in the Park initiative aims to give residents, visitors, and downtown workers a relaxing lunchtime experience, while also enjoying the sights and energy of Cochrane’s historic downtown.

The Bow Valley Rugby Club's U16 and U18 girls' squads featured in a double-header at Mitford Park last Friday, taking on teams from Calgary in back-to-back encounters.

The Cochrane Comets Swim Club is off to the Alberta Summer Games in Okotoks and the athletes are pumped. The Games are slated for Okotoks and Black Diamond July 20 to 23.

Johnson said the competition is truly heating up for the Piranhas as they prepare for regionals, which is followed by provincials in August.

“I love this stuff,” Genung said. “This is part of the reason why I wanted to be mayor, to get involved, and make changes and positive impacts."

“It is a big statement for our group and it just shows we’re finally getting the attention we deserve,” said Stainthorpe. “People are finally starting to talk about our team as one of the powerhouses of the league.”

The community was told the construction would start in May and go to September this summer, but that timeline now is hopefully going to be pushed to next summer.

Power is expected to be restored by 5:30 p.m., according to Fortis.
