As their results showed, the 2022 season will likely be remembered as a rebuilding year for the Springbank Phoenix high-school football team.

Bella Geremia, an 18-year-old student-athlete from Springbank and a 2022 graduate of the Edge School for Athletes, recently wrapped up what was a successful, drama-filled first season on the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) women's soccer team. 

More than one-third into the 2022-23 Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) regular season, the Cochrane Generals inflicted the first loss of the campaign on the dominant Okotoks Carstars Bisons Nov. 5.

"The regular-season games are one thing, but when it comes to playoffs, people are hungry. They want that championship trophy in their hallway, and they want those T-shirts.

“Honestly, it’s been difficult to practice away from our home field during the construction process,” Knitter admitted. “But we’re excited to bring football back to Cochrane High School. It’s something we’re looking forward to, whenever it happens.”

Their first competitive win in Tier I out of the way, Cochrane will now advance to the provincial quarterfinals. They'll host the Henry Wisewood Warriors next week, either on Friday or Saturday. 

“It’s a cultural experience mixed with soccer,” he said. “I wanted to do something at Edge before COVID, but [the pandemic] obviously put us back a couple of years.”

The 2022 high-school football season has come to a close for the Bow Valley Bobcats, following an 18-13 defeat to the Springbank Phoenix in the Rocky View Sports Association's (RVSA) consolation playoff bracket on Oct. 21.

The Cobras football team's six-season banner-winning streak in the RVSA is officially over, after the George McDougall Mustangs claimed the division title on Oct. 28.

With a decade of consistency under their belt, Cummings said St. Tim's has established itself as one of the top cross-country programs in Alberta's 2A division.
