The Covid-19 virus outbreak has caused a number of local teams to be forced to end their seasons earlier while also causing Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre to close down for the foreseeable future.

"Knew it was coming given the health risks, but sure stings that we aren’t able to attend provincials," Sydoryk wrote on his personal Twitter account, March 12.

"Trinity did quite well with our 26 athletes winning 27 medals. I think it was one of our most challenging competitions as of late with larger division sizes than normal and some really talented athletes from across Alberta. Amidst the challenge, our students rose to the occasion and met the challenge head-on."

"We are comfortable in our dressing room and having last change ensured we can get the matchups we want. Home ice has been very good to us this season and we want to continue to take advantage of it."

The Cochrane Generals tied up their series with the Okotoks Bisons at 2-2. The teams will now await for word on if their respective seasons will continue due to the Covid-19 virus outbreak.

"After much consultation with the Hockey Canada membership, our chief medical officer and public health officials, the Hockey Canada Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel all Hockey Canada-sanctioned activities*, including our national championships, until further notice, effective Friday, March 13, 2020."

"Yeah, although we're down 2-1 in the series, I felt like we played some pretty good hockey as a team," he said. "They've all been very close games. They got a bounce in Game 1, we got one in Game 2 and then they got another bounce in Game 3. It was a lot of hockey in a short period of time so I'm definitely not upset with our play this weekend."

For the third straight season, Cochrane's Beth Vinnell and the University of Calgary Dinos volleyball team are headed to nationals which begin March 13 at the Jack Simpson Gym in Calgary. 

A late third period goal propelled the Okotoks Bisons to a 1-0 victory in Game 3, giving them a 2-1 series lead. Read the full breakdown of Game's 1, 2, and 3 in this week's version of the Eagle in order to get you prepped for Game 4 that will take place in Cochrane on Thursday evening. 

Patrick Forde scored the game winner with less than two minutes to go in the third period to give the Generals a 3-2 victory over the Okotoks Bisons. Game 3 will take place tonight at 7:15 p.m.
