It is with mixed emotions that I read this edition (Vol 20, No. 38) of The Cochrane Eagle . I was angered, saddened, and disappointed all in the space of 32 pages.

Alberta is in the midst of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Case numbers are spiking and as infections increase health measures are becoming ever more stringent.

Because of the recent death of a loyal reader and frequent contributor to these columns, I’m delaying the next in our series on the Whisper in the Silence till next week.

I am the second eldest of nine children, seven of my siblings live in Ireland with their spouses and 21 children and 14 grandchildren between them. My 82-year-old mother and dearest friend, entered a nursing home just before COVID-19 started.

I was looking for inspiration for this month’s column so I decided to use the mighty Google and see what holidays occurred on today, Thursday (May 6). Well, I was certainly spoiled for choice.

I write this Council update with the utmost concern for our small businesses that continue to struggle as a result of Provincial Government restrictions.

In medicine, practice care is preferred to reactive care. Maintenance and regular checkups can help prevent a crisis before triage is required. Unfortunately, this is not a practice embraced by the Government of Alberta.
