“We understand that everybody is at a different place during this pandemic and we wanted to meet our families and the communities where they’re at,” Langman said. “We know that this is kind of scary to send your child to an in-person program— But, we didn’t want those children to miss out on connecting to their peers.”

“We won’t be planning in isolation,” said Cochrane Family and Community Support Services manager Kim Krawec. “This is going to take a community effort and involvement from many.”

COCHRANE— Throwing their support behind the Lions Club Labour Day Rodeo, Cochrane Council approved up to $20,000 in funds to support the event if it can move forward.

“We want to do this with a balance of public safety but also honoring our past and our history and our heritage."

The Alberta Government is expected to make an announcement on Wednesday (July 15) about whether or not the province is ready to enter Stage Three of the reopening plan.

What's going on in Cochrane this week: restaurants are once again dispensing masks, the Kiwanis Club is hosting a Chase the Ace draw, and the Route 22 Artist Collective is hosting a celebration.

Rocky View Schools has been busy planning for the new school year and has released preliminary plans for the return of students. The Alberta Government is expected to make a decision on what the school year will look like on Aug. 1.

On Tuesday (July 6) the Spray Lakes Sawmill Family Sports Centre announced that it would be offering in-person summer fitness classes including yoga, spin classes, boot camps, and more.

“We are, as a staff, looking forward to being able to serve the public again in person,” said Greg Barsi, Facilities Manager with the Town of Cochrane. “Being able to reopen the front-facing side of the business is certainly a welcome piece for most of the staff.”

This week in Cochrane: the Cochrane Public Library launches its Summer Reading Club program, Rocky View and Wheatland Employment Services hosts a free workshop, and the Cochrane Hospice Society holds a contest for the benefit of Cochrane's senior population.
