“These are both admittedly small contributions in the grand scheme, but I would suggest that they are worthy considerations as we stand with Cochrane’s suffering small business community and just know that we’re doing whatever little we can with the small of amount of control we have,” said Councillor Patrick Wilson.

“The community here everybody supports each other— People want to support each other and lift each other up as much as we can,” Leonzio said. “This is an opportunity to do that.”

"We are at the whim of the COVID pandemic just like every other community. With a relatively small amount of money ... Could we potentially save a business and have them have access to these provincial and federal levels of financial assistance and maybe create jobs and have a greater impact on our local economy."

The town had a reported nine active cases of the virus as of the end of day Wednesday (Feb. 3). To date 316 cases have been identified in the town— Two people have died and 305 people have recovered.

"The province has stepped in Dr. Deena Hinshaw and Premier Jason Kenney have taken very deliberate action on the mask stuff. I think we should ... Leave it to the experts," said Councillor Morgan Nagel. "We shouldn't try to act as a health care authority in the municipal government."
