COCHRANE— Starting 4 p.m. Thursday (July 29) a fire ban is in effect for Cochrane. No campfires, burning of wood products or charcoal briquettes are allowed during a fire ban.

What's happening in Cochrane this week: The Cochrane and Area Events Society is looking for volunteers, the Cochrane Public Library is hosting an art exhibition, and Highway 1A updates have been issued by the Town.

“Even though this is just a little program, I think that kind of confidence goes a long way throughout their life. When they feel confident and they can come somewhere and do what they want to do and empower other girls, that carries them through life so differently and it starts with one small thing.”

“We were booking four weeks out and now it's down to less than a week out and far more no-shows."

An RCMP air operation attempting to locate stolen property on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation led to one man being charged and four vehicles recovered, police said.

“This information that has been put in front of them should be of interest. At least it should be checked in the field to see if this actually needs to be a concern, or is an issue."

“It will be a beautiful drive,” Messner said. “Our only worry right now is what’s going to happen with the fires. Every day is a bit of a challenge in making sure everything is going to work out.”
