“I feel bad even bad for asking or thinking of getting more than what I’ve already gotten out of it. Ultimately to medal would be phenomenal— There’s a handful of Canadian artists that have done that, so that would be the absolute greatest compliment.”

"Without it, work continues to be challenging in some cases people are not able to work remotely," Van Keimpema said. "We could have done this gradually over time, we needed to anyway, [but] COVID has put an urgency to it because people are working remotely."

“We value giving back and supporting our community. It really just is a give-back to the town of Cochrane, to families of Cochrane, as a way to keep your kids moving through all of this.”

The province released a plan Friday for the further easing of restrictions.

“As a school board of trustees we are responsible to Rocky View students first,” Baziuk said. “What this policy is not saying is that out of boundary students are not welcome— The only thing we’re saying is when a principal and an area director and a superintendent say, for all kinds of reasons, the answer needs to be no, then it’s no.”

“I think this is what’s right for the community. I think the RCMP, the people that live out here, I think this is what they wanted— This goes a large to us serving them in a way that we feel meets their needs. I’m really excited to do this.”

COCHRANE— The number of active COVID-19 cases in Cochrane is holding steady at 20, as of the end of day Wednesday (Jan. 27).

What's happening in Cochrane this week: The Boys and Girls Club is hosting a free after-school program, the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area is looking for a home for its Free Food Shed, and Town Council saw plans for the new Protective Services building.

“That means trying to push them to make changes for the better where we can, that means trying to criticize with the intent of seeing improvement to the programs that exist, that means pushing them to get our economy reopened, to have a vaccine plan. All of those things that I’ve talked about, that is the first and foremost job.”
