A dream has become reality for Bragg Creek hockey player Dylan Holloway, after the 19-year-old was selected in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft Oct. 6.

“It was a lot of emotions. A mix of relief, excitement, nerves, just a flurry of a whole bunch of things. We don’t know what the future is going to bring, but you can just work as hard as you can right now.”

The Cochrane Cobras hosted a competitive interclub scrimmage on Thursday (Oct. 8) to cap off a development-only season.

The Airdrie-Cochrane Athletic Association, now under the Alberta Elite Hockey League banner, will participate in competitive games this season.

“If we can be that entity, if you want to call it that, that brings people back together, then we have to do everything we can to make it work. That’s what we’re trying to do.”

The Cochrane Generals has wrapped up its camp and now has a preliminary roster for the upcoming season.

“For a kid to go through a university program—Boy oh boy that’s just a brave move. It’s hard. Those are the guys that become the real football players, and Ben and Ty are those guys.”

“It’s kind of that old adage, you get out of it what you put into it. I think wrestling is one of those things— the more you practice, the harder you drive, the more disciplined you are, the more you’re going to get out of it."

The inaugural Queen of the Valley stand-up paddleboarding race was such a huge success, the organizers plan to host it annually and expand it in size and scope.

“I even told these kids how proud of them I was the other night. They’re coming out here every day and busting their butts, doing the skills and drills, with no carrot to reach for because there are no games.”
