Political experts suggest the vote could break either way in the sense that most voters will lean on a conservative government to be trusted with fiscal stability, or on a left-leaning government to focus on areas like environment and health care.

Locally, the riding Airdrie-Cochrane appears to be a two-horse race, as only candidates from the United Conservative Party and New Democratic Party are registered for the constituency. According to Elections Alberta's website, candidates have until 2 p.m. on May 11 to submit their nomination papers to run in the election.

Students, businesses and other volunteers are joining forces as part of the Cochrane Environmental Action Committee’s (CEAC) latest effort to plant as many trees as possible in town on May 12 and 13.

The Rocky View Schools Board of Trustees showed unanimous support toward changing the school division’s Indigenous Advisory Circle terms of reference and the approval of a locally developed course on April 27.

Cochrane Fire Services crews responded to a fire at The Community Food Co., located at 185 1 St E. on Wednesday morning, tying up downtown traffic for a few hours.

“The trend right now is to go toward what was STEM, but now they added a new abbreviation to that, which is STEAM,” Guenther said. “It’s science, technology, engineering, arts, and math."
