The Cochrane Piranhas Swim Club had a third swim meet in as many weeks as 46 swimmers from the club competed in the Calgary Tritons meet at the Repsol Center in Calgary on July 14.

Going into the 2018 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL) campaign, the Rockyview Silvertips had high expectations for themselves after a 5-15 season the year prior, which caused them to miss the playoffs and finish last in their division.

The Cochrane Piranhas just kept the medals coming while the team was in Didsbury for a July 7 meet.

The Rockyview junior B Silvertips lacrosse team are in the home stretch of their regular season after they split a pair of games on July 6 and 8. The first game for the Silvertips took place on the road in Olds when the team took on the Mavericks.

Cochrane horseback rider Austin Seelhof and his horse Lipstick Jungle have qualified with Team Canada for the 2018 World Equestrian Games which will take place Sept. 11 to 23 in Mill Spring, North Carolina.

Some 40 Cochrane Piranhas swimmers competed in their third meet of the season on June 30. A total of 367 swimmers from the ASSA Region E participated in the Okotoks meet on the weekend.

Fourteen-year-old Ryley Juneau will represent Cochrane, selected to the Big Country Under-16 Zone 2 softball team that will participate in the Alberta Summer Games on July 20 to 22 in Grande Prairie.

With only five games remaining on their schedule, the 9-6 Rockyview Silvertips Junior B lacrosse team gained a much-needed point when they faced off with a divisional rival in the 9-6 Calgary Chill on June 28.

With summer well underway, cowpokes throughout the region are dusting off their cowboy boots and hats in preparation for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, known as the Calgary Stampede, which runs July 6 to 15.

Cochrane hockey player Austin Wong is Cochrane's next pro-level hockey player after he was taken in the National Hockey League (NHL) Draft. The Winnipeg Jets selected him in the seventh round, 215th overall on June 23 in Dallas.
