When it came to light that the City of Victoria was going to remove their statue of Sir John A. MacDonald, I emailed the mayor and council of Victoria, asking about its future.

I do not know Coun.

Today I witnessed a very disturbing incident. A bicyclist at the off leash dog area by the river (Jim Uffleman park) was riding extremely fast, and hit a dog very hard. This was bad enough, but then he rode off without stopping or even looking back.

After reading about the latest chapter in the transportation saga, I was left not only saddened by what I see as continued political gamesmanship but also dismayed by Coun. Patrick Wilson’s decision to remain in the August council meeting.

After my vacation it was great to come back home. It was even better to read that council meetings will soon be broadcast online. Here’s hoping that this is the first step in increasing public engagement and transparency and not the last.

Thank you Mayor Lisa Helps and the councillors of the City of Victoria for taking down the statue of John A. MacDonald. I want to recognize their courage and commitment to reconciliation in this country.

Contrary to recent letters suggesting that I am opposed to environmental protection, I am only vehemently opposed to the carbon tax.

Sir John A’s proposal to enfranchise First Nations people and women in the 1890s needs more exposure to all Canadians in the 21 st century. Ditto for the cancellation of that initiative by his liberal successor, W. Laurier.
