When it came to light that the City of Victoria was going to remove their statue of Sir John A. MacDonald, I emailed the mayor and council of Victoria, asking about its future.

Today I witnessed a very disturbing incident. A bicyclist at the off leash dog area by the river (Jim Uffleman park) was riding extremely fast, and hit a dog very hard. This was bad enough, but then he rode off without stopping or even looking back.

After my vacation it was great to come back home. It was even better to read that council meetings will soon be broadcast online. Here’s hoping that this is the first step in increasing public engagement and transparency and not the last.

I would like to respond to the suggestion by L. Leugner that citizens like myself are “ill informed” regarding the carbon tax and the fossil fuel industry. The writer has stated that oil sands companies pay royalties “between 24 and 40 per cent.
