As this will be the last Councillor Column of 2020, I thought I would look back on a year that none of us will ever forget. The beginning of 2020 brought a re-organization to town staff as well as the sudden departure of our former CAO.

COCHRANE— Cochrane is continuing its downward trend in reported COVID-19 cases. On Thursday (Dec. 17) the town had a reported 53 active cases of the virus.

What's happening in Cochrane this week: The Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area is seeking volunteers, Santa has confirmed that he will be coming to town this Christmas, and a last-minute foodie market will open up on Saturday (Dec. 19).

The Christmas Eve Santa Fun Run has been cancelled by Cochrane Fire Services, after it was noted that the event contravenes provincial health orders.

“That’s going to be very difficult and we need to try and do our best,” said Airdrie-Cochrane MLA Peter Guthrie. “I hope everybody has a safe holiday.”

"There has been a clear message from our community over the past four or five years that expanding our traffic infrastructure is most people's number one priority," said Coun. Morgan Nagel said. "I think that it's great we've been able to continue delivering on infrastructure while also keeping taxes at a reasonable rate."

On Wednesday (Dec. 16) the town had a reported 54 active cases of the virus. To date, there have been a reported 191 cases of COVID-19 in Cochrane and 136 people have recovered.

“They are seeing that we are being kind that we are being supportive,” Nicolle said. “It’s being reflected from what they’re seeing on a daily basis— We have individuals in our community that are really showing that kindness because these kids are reflecting it.”
