The Friends of CF Golf Classic has been swinging its way toward a cure for the fatal disease for the past 25 years. Scheduled for Aug. 28, this is the first year the tournament will be hosted in Cochrane at The Links of GlenEagles Golf Course.

The Cochrane Piranhas gave it all they had last weekend at provincials in Edmonton – and for a few it was their last competition.

Cody Coverchuck of Meadow Lake, Sask., bucked his way to first place at this year’s Cochrane Classic Bull Riding. “It feels good,” Coverchuck stated. “I went there expecting to win … every bull rider expects to win.

Cochrane’s Skylar Sieben, 17, had a triumphant weekend winning gold at the National Legion Canadian Track and Field Championships in Brandon, Man., and silver with Team Alberta. “It feels really good,” Sieben said proudly of her winning weekend.

Marcos Gloria, 27, from Central de Minas, Brazil, who sits first in the BRC (Bull Riders Canada) standings, will be competing in the Cochrane Classic Bull Riding event for the second year in a row. The Cochrane Classic will take place on Aug.

Cochranite James O’Neill will compete with the Canada U20 rugby team later this month at the Junior World Trophy in Uruguay on Aug. 23.

Hole No. 16 at The Links of GlenEagles golf course has been swinging its way to international fame as one of Canada’s most unique par 3s.

Cochranite Anne-Sophie Levesque and her Canadian Young Rider Eventing Team jumped their way to a bronze medal at the 2017 Adequan/FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships in Kalispell, Montana July 18 to 21.

With the Bow Valley Grizzlies season coming to an end, they extended their season streak to nine wins and no losses, downing the Calgary Saracens 53-17 last Saturday.

Diver Ashley McCool splashed her way to a gold medal at the Canada Summer Games this week. On July 31, McCool jumped to a gold standing with 303.60 points on the o three metre dive. She also achieved silver on the springboard three-metre dive.
